Foreign Aid

U.S. security assistance to Israel in the annual foreign aid bill is the most tangible manifestation of American support, especially during a time of tremendous turmoil in the Middle East. American aid is a vital component of U.S. commitments to ensure that the Jewish state maintains its qualitative military edge over its adversaries.

Both the House and Senate Appropriations Committees approved the annual foreign aid bill, which included the security assistance for Israel, in May 2012.

  1. U.S. aid commitment to Israel is vital. 
    In 2007, the United States pledged $30 billion in U.S. security assistance to Israel over a 10-year period to face growing threats. Nearly 75 percent of the aid is spent in the United States on weapons and other supplies Israel needs.

    Though America faces a tough budgetary environment, American security assistance is vital in helping Israel meet the new threats and challenges of a region in turmoil, including a potential nuclear-armed Iran and growing missile threat.

    In addition to advancing vital national security interests, America’s foreign aid program promotes the values of the United States: democracy, pluralism, human rights and the rule of law. It also develops foreign markets and creates jobs at home.
